Our Curriculum
At Arthur Street Early Learning, our curriculum is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and shaped by the Australian Early Years Learning Framework. We believe in fostering a child-centered approach that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and exploration.
What is the Reggio Emilia Approach?
The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy founded on the belief that children are strong, capable, and full of potential. It emphasises their natural curiosity and encourages them to explore and understand the world around them while discovering their role within it.
Through a self-guided curriculum, children are supported in expressing themselves in diverse ways while exploring, questioning, and interpreting their environment. This journey of discovery is guided by skilled educators and enriched by the active involvement of families.
The Role of the Educator
Educators at Arthur Street Early Learning play a pivotal role in shaping meaningful learning experiences. They provide opportunities for children to make sense of the world by fostering relationships with peers, adults, and their surroundings.
Our educators are dedicated to creating a safe, engaging, and stimulating environment; one that inspires curiosity, encourages investigation, and supports each child’s natural inquisitiveness. By co-constructing knowledge alongside the children, educators help them develop a deeper understanding of their world.
The Role of Families
Families are integral to our Reggio-inspired learning community. We actively encourage parents and caregivers to engage in their child’s learning journey, fostering a strong partnership between home and school. By sharing ideas, skills, and insights, families contribute to a supportive, collaborative learning environment focused on building meaningful relationships and nurturing each child’s development.
Documentation of Learning
We believe that documenting children’s learning is essential to understanding and enhancing their educational journey. Our educators use a variety of tools, including diagrams, notes, photographs, videos, and conversations, to capture moments of discovery and growth.
This documentation serves multiple purposes: it challenges and extends children’s thinking, facilitates reflection, connects families to their child’s experiences, and guides future planning. It is always respectful of the children and ensures that every child is valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. Documentation also enables our educators to critically reflect on their teaching practices, continually improving and enriching the learning experience.
